Exploring Albufeira
Exploring Albufeira
There’s something truly magical about stepping off the plane and being greeted by the warm embrace of the Algarve sun. Albufeira has rapidly grown to become one of Europe's most popular beach destinations featuring its vibrant nightlife, quaint cobblestone streets and breathtaking beaches. I have explored Albufeira twice and I can confidently say I will return in the future! Each day brought a new discovery, so join me as I recount my personal journey, providing tips and tricks on how to score the best deals.
Flying to the Algarve is convenient and affordable. Most flights are direct into Faro Airport which is a 30-minute drive from Albufeira. Taxis are always available, or if you are looking for a cheaper alternative you can catch a bus or train, which is a 45-minute journey.
Tip: Book your flights on Tuesday afternoon for the cheapest deals!
Dive into the best restaurants to visit in Albufeira, Portugal
Albufeira offers a diverse culinary scene, from traditional Portuguese dishes to Mexican, Italian, Indian...whatever your taste bud's desire!
Ricardo’s: This was my personal favourite, a quaint Italian restaurant with rooftop views of the picturesque ocean. The freshly prepared authentic pizza and pasta were packed with mouthwatering flavours, along with the incredible service and charming environment, this restaurant is a must visit!
Tequila Loca: This is a hidden gem located on the streets of the old town that serves the freshest, flavour packed Mexican style dishes. They have a reasonably priced menu, with lots of options and the lively atmosphere brings the restaurant to life!
The Three Harps: This Irish pub is situated in the bustling area of the strip; its cosy atmosphere is perfect for us tourists to relax and feel at home! They offer classic Irish pub grub that does not disappoint!
One of the best ways to experience the Algarve’s coastline is by boat. There are several boat tours departing from Albufeira Marina, taking you to hidden beaches, sea caves, and if you're lucky you may even see dolphins, like we did! On my trip, we were able to jump into the water from the boat and go for a swim. Most tours arrive at the Benagil Cave, one of the most famous caves in the region. It is breathtaking with a large ceiling opening, allowing sunlight to pour in and illuminate the sandy beach.
Nightlife
From sipping cocktails in the Old Town to lively, karaoke nights out in the New Town...there is never a dull night in Albufeira!
Old Town
The Old Town offers a combination of classic Portuguese taverns, classy cocktail bars and live music performances, resulting in a pleasant ambiance with a touch of local culture. The most amazing singer, Nuno Ess, had a live music performance in the street bringing everyone together, creating a lively and unique atmosphere you wouldn't experience anywhere else.
Tip: Most bars and nightclubs offer promotions on drinks and even free drinks, so make sure to keep an eye out!
New Town
Surrounded by buzzing nightclubs, the New Town is the place to be for a wild night out! The party goes on until 5 am, so you can dance the night away. As the sun sets, the area comes to life with neon lights, live music, and DJ performances, creating a buzzing atmosphere that draws both tourists and locals.
Whether you are looking for a relaxing getaway or a party holiday, Albufeira has it all! It has everything you desire and has truly captured my heart; I believe it will capture yours too!
